Adding Fractions

USE THE FOLLOWING STEPS TO ADD FRACTIONS WITH UNLIKE DENOMINATORS
  • CREATE NEW EQUIVALENT FRACTIONS THE HAVE COMMON DENOMINATORS
  1. Find the "common denominator" by multiplying the denominators
  2. Re-write the numerators by "cross multiplying
  3. Add the numerators of the new "equivalent fractions"
  4. Reduce the answer to simplest form and change it to a mixed fraction if necessary
